Summary

Black Butte mine is in the Green River Basin in southwest Wyoming.

Black Butte is a 50/50 joint venture between Lighthouse Resources and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. Lighthouse Resources operates the mine and is responsible for marketing.

The mine – a combination of dragline and truck and shovel stripping – produces about 3.4 million metric tons of coal each year. It is served by Union Pacific Railroad via an existing onsite rail loop.

Along with supplying the existing domestic market, Lighthouse Resources Inc. is working towards exporting coal from Black Butte to the international market.
